Punjab Congress infighting: Rahul Gandhi denies ‘scheduled meeting’ with Navjot Singh Sidhu | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday denied any scheduled meeting with sulking Punjab leader Navjot Singh Sidhu.
“No meeting with Sidhu,” Rahul said as he left his residence in the evening for 10 Janpath, the residence of his mother and party president Sonia Gandhi.
There were reports on Monday that Sidhu, who has been at loggerheads with Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, will meet Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka in the national capital.
Sidhu had quit as a minister from the Punjab cabinet in 2019 after his portfolio was changed. He has been openly targeting Amarinder Singh, much to the discomfort of the Congress.
Rahul Gandhi has been meeting senior leaders and elected representatives from Punjab in a bid to end the infighting in the state unit.
However, Rahul did not meet Captain Amarinder Singh when the Punjab CM was in Delhi to meet the three-member Congress panel formed to look into the crisis in the state unit and suggest corrective measures.
The panel chaired by leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and comprising AICC general secretary incharge of Punjab affairs Harish Rawat and former MP JP Aggarwal has suggested a revamp of the state unit to accommodate all sections.
It submitted its report to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The panel had asked Amarinder Singh to prepare a roadmap on 18 issues that are pending action on the part of the state government, including action against the land and transport mafia as well as against those involved in the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib.
