Hey guys and welcome to my living room where we have tasks
For today’s article we are going to bother his catnap and talk about sunscreens I wanted to talk to you about sunscreens and which ones will not break you out.
Being an acne sufferer for over half of my life and being a sunburn queen myself I wanted to compile a list of my favorite sunscreens for acne prone skin.
Whether you’re going to be wearing them under makeup what do you want something for every day whether it’s body acne that you’re concerned about or whether you want drugstore options?
I’m going to tell you what works what doesn’t and what you should be looking for if you have acne prone skin.
also at the end of this Article, I’m going to be talking a little bit about some of the breakouts that I’ve been having as part of my clear skin project I’m adding in and subtracting different things from my diet and lifestyle to try to understand the actual causes of my acne.
At the very end, I have a little bit of an update for you. So first off let’s talk about the two different types of sunscreens and why do matter for acne prone skin.
There is such thing as chemical sunscreens and physical or mineral sunscreens.
How these are different is that chemical sunscreens are made up of accountable and these are actually absorbed by your skin and the particles of the chemical sunscreen work by absorbing UVA and UVB rays kind of like a sponge.
They basically take the Rays of the Sun in hold them and turn them into heat energy. This means that the sun’s rays aren’t being absorbed into your body as much.
But they are being absorbed into the product. Now that’s great and of course it protects you from the Sun but we also know that inflammation and heat go hand-in-hand.
And almost all acne prone skin is inflammation prone. Acne is inflammatory by Nature and if you eat that can increase the problem.
So keep that in mind if you’ve got active breakout.
The other type of sunscreen is a physical or mineral sunscreen
This is a mineral base that is normally titanium or zinc oxide and this works differently because instead of being absorbed into your skin it sits on top of your skin kind of like a shield and actually deflects light like a mirror.
so when light from the Sun and damaging UVA rays and UVB rays come at you it reflects them off into the ether and stops from being penetrated into your skin.
But its acne sufferers we tend to avoid sunscreen because we find they break us out either on our faces or even on our bodies.
And we would rather have better skin or clearer skin now than worried about wrinkles in the future.
But if there is an option between where we can still stay protected from the Sun but not contribute to breakouts that is the ideal.
And the products that I want to talk to you about today are going to help you figure that out.
6 Best Sunscreens for Acne Prone Skin
So first I’m going to stop at this one this is from dr. jart and it is absolutely one of my favorites this is the illuminating one it protects from both UVA and UVB rays.
It’s got SPF 36 and it’s got a skin glowing effect it’s also amazing about this formula is that it’s completely mineral oil free.
Mineral oil is an ingredient that is unfortunately in a lot of products and it can actually exacerbate acne and really be damaging to your skin.
This one is completely mineral oil free and it is beautiful underneath makeup it protects well but it goes on extraordinarily smooth and it really blends into the skin nicely.
Now because this does not leave any white cast this is perfect for using under makeup because it will look great in photos.
it also gives you an illuminating base that does make your skin look oily this is perfect for using kind of as a primer to get your makeup to stick to your face.
But it won’t add soil throughout the day. So if you’re looking for an everyday sunscreen and you are someone who wears makeup.

And is looking for something to use underneath swap this out instead of your primer and use this to keep foundation on your skin and to keep your skin protective.
Dr. jart is a brand that’s from Korea and you know that Korea is cutting edge and beauty and this is actually a hybrid sunscreen.
Meaning that it has the physical or mineral sunscreen along with some of these safe chemical sunscreens.
So this gives you kind of the best of both worlds and it does protect against UVA and UVB. Which means you’re protected against sunburns and that oxidization as well as cool skin damage.
This is another one of my absolute favorites which are from a beam this one is my absolute favorite if you’re not wearing makeup this one is a mineral sunscreen.
So it’s completely physical and it’s based on zinc. And it does not have a white cast and it does not leave any whiteness kind of on your skin.
But at the same time, I have found that formula does not stick to the foundation very well. So even though this is an amazing sunscreen I don’t think it’s best if you do wear makeup.
But on the days that you’re not wearing makeup, this is one of the best. It’s also got SPF 60 which means that you don’t have to apply it as often to actually have antioxidants in it.
This means whatever rays you get into your skin and start to cause damage those antioxidants can kind of blunt and stop that damage and kind of take the place of your body is hurt.
This one shear and non-whitening and it are actually made for sensitive skin. So if you do have acne this is a beautiful option.
It’s also very lightweight so you don’t feel it on the skin both of these are extraordinarily non-greasy and being an acne-prone oily skin like if I have on my face I cannot stand it.

And if the sunscreen adds to that I’m going to literally rip my head off but what’s great about both of these is that they don’t cause that grease.
Next, let’s talk about two drugstore options I have a physical mineral option as well as a very well known chemical option.
So we’ll start with this one because it’s actually my least favorite of the two this is from Neutrogena which if you have acne you are probably very familiar with and this is a broad spectrum SPF 55.
So again it lasts for quite a long time 550 minutes because it’s SPF 55 and it protects against both those UVA and UVB rays.
Now, this one is considered to face safe and breakout free and for a chemical sunscreen, I would say that this is one of the safer chemical sunscreens for acne-prone skin.
And even though I’ve been using this for over maybe seven or eight years I do have to be honest occasionally this will break me out.

It is probably one of the best chemical drugstore sunscreens and of the chemical ingredients it lists it has these safer chemical ingredients that are better for acne-prone skin
What I do have to be honest there are times and there have been days where this has contributed to a breakout.
So if you’re looking for a full spectrum and expensive drugstore options it is a chemical sunscreen this really is one of the best and again you can find this for about under $10 dollars.
It is ultra-light and oil-free and I’ll show you how it goes onto the skin one of my favorite things about it is that it does go on very very nice and it does not leave a super bad light cast.
However, I have found that this one leaves my skin feeling a little bit more greasy which I’m just not personally a fan of having oily skin.
If you have dry skin or normal skin this could be different for you for me it’s just not much have some favorite.
This is from Pacifica Beauty I absolutely love this one this is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes. So it’s great is that you can actually swim in this one and this is a mineral face shade SPF 50 with coconut probiotics.
Again it prevents against UVA and UVB rays but because it is a mineral or physical base it deflects life instead of absorbing it.
Now I have been honest even though this one is probably my favorite drugstore option. I’m totally out of it I have noticed that this does show back white cast in photos.

So if you’re going to be wearing this under makeup under photos just keep that in mind and I’ll put it on this side so above the Neutrogena one.
and as you can see this one does leave a little bit more of a white cap but it does soak in extraordinarily well and it also doesn’t kind of get peeling on the skin you have some sunscreens.
Almost getting gummy when you rub them in this one doesn’t do that even though it does leave a little bit of a white cast.
This one is also 100% vegan and cruelty-free and again because of those coconut probiotics it really helps to replenish the skin.
So it’s giving you more than just sun protection it’s giving you a little bit of added skincare as well and the fact that its waterproof and drugstore priced is phenomenal.
Next, I’m going to move on to two of my favorite body sunscreen especially if you suffer from chest or back or body acne.
One of these is actually a completely organic and natural brand and the other one I have found is great for sports.
So we’ll start off with this one which is from Tarte cosmetics and this is a mineral sunscreen I absolutely love this one for how well it absorbs how well it soaks in.
And the fact that it doesn’t leave a huge white chest or leave my skin super greasy or super oily it is a completely physical sunscreen.

So again its titanium dioxide-based and it reflects that light this one also stays really well I found that if I sweat in this one it doesn’t upset my body which I’m so happy about.
And this is really great if you have oily skin this one is SPF 30 it’s the tarp guard one so this one will last to 300 minutes.
And I found that for my body this does not cause chest acne this does not call shoulder or body acne but still prevents against a burn.
The alternative to that is the SPF 40 from Olay this one is actually SPF Plus a moisturizer so if you have dry skin or if you need hydration this is a great option for you.
Olay is also an organic brand so this product actually has aloe Vera in it to have pomegranate and a little bit of grape leaf extract.
And it is literally amazing for your body because it does not because body acne the only problem that I’ve has found is that it does not blend in super well.
It’s not the best if you have oily skin or if you’re going to be sweating. Now if you are a stickler about ingredients this is probably your safest bet because it is the most natural.
It’s literally you know a physical sunscreen of a mineral sunscreen plus a whole bunch of organic ingredients.
But it’s also a little bit on the pricier side. It doesn’t soak in as well but it is really great for dry skin.
Especially if you’ve been getting burnt like on your shoulders for about six days in a row on vacation and you’re starting to peel this is the one you need to reach for.
Because of that Aloe Vera and not pomegranate, it’s going to help rebuild your skin and that moisture is actually going to help soothe that burn.
Because the burns usually get dry and start to peel off and so when it comes to sunscreens those are it.
Yes, the Sun can help prevent acne by killing certain bacteria but the UVA and UVB rays can actually increase acne by causing inflammation and skin oxidization.
you know how if you cut an apple in half and leave it out for a while it will kind of turn brown that’s the process called oxidization and the same thing happens with our skin absolute black sides are made of.
When sebum gets oxidized or introduced to oxygen it turns that brown color and can be the starting point of acne.
Now unfortunately certain rays from the Sun can also penetrate the skin and cause that same process to happen inside of the skin to the sebum that is inside of our face inside of our bodies.
That food can cause breakouts. So where this one can help it can also damage.
So when it comes to my first two recommendations I’m going to talk about one that is perfect for wearing underneath makeup and if you’ve got ask me you’re probably wearing makeup to cover it up.
I’m going to talk about that and I’m also going to talk about my favorite one for if you don’t wear makeup or if you’re not wearing makeup on a certain day.
So those are my personal picks for body acne for face acne and chemical vs physical options for drugstore or high-end prices.
Now as you can see this is kind of how the sunscreens look the Neutrogena ones a little bit more oily and this once they leave the white cast what is amazing.
And these just soak into the skin so perfectly and are great for makeup applications.
So that being said I hope that if you have acne this helps you make a better decision for sunscreens you can stay protected and breakout free.
